A psychiatrist is the only person who has the experience and know-how to conduct a true anxiety disorder test. There is no harm, however, in performing one of these tests on your own, using pre-set questionnaires and scoring systems that can be found on the Internet and other media. Bear in mind that these self-evaluating anxiety disorder tests can only act as a guide and the proper tests must be conducted by qualified professionals.

Everyday worries and concerns should not be misconstrued as anxiety. It is natural for humans to experience some degree of anxiety in every day life. Negative or depressing feelings come and go. How cheerful can one possibly be after losing a loved one? Tragedies and serious threats to one’s security are integral challenges that all of us have to face. We are built to withstand these pressures and can recover from most hardships that we encounter. It is only when these feelings become persistent or severe that there may be a problem. Distinguishing between normal brain functioning and possible anxiety, in the psychiatric definition of the term, is not always easy.

A doctor should be consulted when one experiences attacks of anxiety for no obvious reason for extended periods of time, or when one becomes seriously incapacitated by what is happening in one’s thoughts. In order for it to be effective, an anxiety disorder test must take all the aspects of one’s mental and physical condition into account.

It is difficult enough to remain analytical or objective about our own thought processes, so speculating that a family member, a close friend, or a colleague may be suffering from anxiety is extremely difficult.

What Happens After An Anxiety Disorder Test?

After someone has completed an anxiety disorder test, counselling is of utmost importance. When an anxiety disorder test reveals positive results it is imperative that quality time be spent with a trusted person or loved one. Whether you are the patient or the one offering the counselling, talking about one’s fears and concerns without restraint and at length can often help the anxiety to dissipate, even if this is only a temporary solution. Financial concerns are a typical example of an illusory reason for anxiety. This anxiety may appear unwarranted after all the facts have been laid bare. Potential (and often obvious) solutions which the person has not yet considered can be discussed.

Sometimes, after someone has completed an anxiety disorder test, the only solution might be prescription drugs. This can only be possible once a psychiatrist has completed a thorough assessment of the patient. A psychiatrist will often counsel the patient first before prescribing anti-anxiety drugs. The difference between concerned friends and professionals is that a professional is not biased by past knowledge of the patient. Psychiatrists possess skills and expertise that help people to understand the inner processes of their minds better, and they can be an imperative part of the patient’s recovery.
